A Typographic Study of The Blacker the Berry

The Blacker the Berry by Kendrick Lamar references the historic oppression of the Black community, race relations in contemporary American society, police brutality, the US penitentiary system, and the complexities of black identity. The song goes into the idea of double consciousness coined by WEB Du Bois, “describes the internal conflict experienced by oppressed groups in oppressive societies aka Black people in White America” & alludes to the historic struggle of race relations in America. This is a typographic project studying the song itself in a poster-like element focusing on font, hierarchy, and the text itself as a form of imagery, made by using Adobe InDesign.
