The Void

Acrylic Paint (2019)

Taking inspiration from the artist, Daliah Ammar, this piece is the most personal to me as it depicts my hands hugging a void and emptiness which represents my mother. I used cool tones to paint my hands as the hands are lifeless and holding on to something that is not there anymore. As my mother has not lived with me for more than 7 years, I wanted to create this piece to show the significance of her absence and its effect on me. I referenced a photograph of me hugging my mom, and only painting my arms, the piece is minimal with the main focus being on the drained hands in the middle of complete darkness.
